Last year I asked my mother outside of her in-laws what other Jenkins had she met. She specifically mentioned Hollis Jenkins, possibly JayGou Jenkins, and Ellis Jenkins.
I wish she could see this picture of Rev. Ellis Eugene Jenkins in action. He appears to be in his minister's robe delivering the word.
Once I found information on him - he had passed in 1998 - my mother and I were both amazed that he was the son of Levi Jenkins Sr. And my mother surmised that he resembled the man whom at first I thought was Levi Jenkins Sr. (the pic from a newspaper with cattle in the background) but actually turned out to be Levi Jenkins Jr. Huh?

Once I found information on him - he had passed in 1998 - my mother and I were both amazed that he was the son of Levi Jenkins Sr. And my mother surmised that he resembled the man whom at first I thought was Levi Jenkins Sr. (the pic from a newspaper with cattle in the background) but actually turned out to be Levi Jenkins Jr. Huh?
Well we've covered this before. Ellis' father is a man I identify as Uncle Levi (and be honest on my Ancestry.com tree I spell his name Levy to differentiate them from my grandfather & father).
My mother's first meeting with Cousin Ellis was at Christ Chapel Baptist Church located on Racine not that far from Marquette Road on Chicago's south side. And this was the church of his 1st cousin and my great-aunt Bertha Jenkins McGhee.
I wish I had taken a pic of this when the opportunity presented itself. Berth's husband the late Charles McGhee is still on the church as the founding pastor. A small world as far as the relationship these two had. My only questions is how did they connect and realize the relationship between them.
Since Ellis has passed in 1998 and Bertha had passed in 2001, this might be a question that will not likely have an answer.
With a thanks to the grandson of Ellis Jenkins who provided the above photograph, Rev. Jenkins spent most of his life in Chicago. When he passed away he was laid to rest in the Spring Beulah Church Cemetery in Ruth, Mississippi. He's buried there with his family including a number of his brothers & sisters, his parents Levi Sr. & the former Annie Downs, his grandparents Garrison & the former Delia Newman, a number of his cousins, aunts and uncles, and his wife the former Lola Mae Payton who passed later was buried alongside him as well.
As you may have learned in the post about his aunt Catherine Manning, her husband Wallace had a hand in the creation of this church and cemetery as Wallace Manning was said to have provided the land for the church.
